FAIRFAX, Va - As the start of the 2015 W-League season nears, the Braddock Road Stars Elite prepare for their second season following a successful inaugural campaign in 2014.  Under head coach Larry Best, the Stars Elite advanced to the playoffs of the Northeastern Conference in their first season.  Best, the 2012 US Youth Soccer Girls Competitive Coach of the Year, will remain as head coach for the 2015 season.

Braddock Road finished last season second in the conference with a 5-7-1 record.  The Stars Elite, who scored 21 goals in 13 games, will return 7 starters including captain Kristen Meier.  The team played without Carlyn Baldwin and Kaleigh Riehl for most of the season as the two competed in the U-20 Women’s World Cup in Canada last summer.

Conference changes during the offseason added both Braddock Road and the Washington Spirit Reserves to the Southeastern Conference for the 2015 season.  The division is now comprised of the Charlotte Lady Eagles, who were the 2014 conference champion, along with the Atlanta Silverbacks, Carolina Elite Cobras, and Dayton Dutch Lions.

“Despite the tough competition in our new conference” said Meier, “our expectation is to return to the playoffs again this year. With the core of our young team returning, we look to build on our strong finish from last season.”

The season will begin when Braddock Road travels to Dayton for a two-game weekend against the Dutch Lions.  The first game will be played on Friday, May 15 at 7 p.m. at DOC Stadium in West Carrollton, Ohio. The home opener for the Stars Elite is set for Sunday, May 31 at 2 p.m. against the Silverbacks at Robinson Secondary School. Fans can follow Braddock Road on Twitter (@BRStarselite) for more updates.
